Muslim World Initiative — Activity Summary
The Muslim World Initiative is designed to address important
development needs within the Muslim world. As part of
the Initiative, PPC formed a working group, entitled
“Muslim World Outreach.”
IRIS organized events and expertise for USAID involving
interagency and think tank participation, and helped
coordinate a survey of past and current development
projects in the Muslim World organized around justice,
knowledge and opportunity. PPC IDEAS developed a website
for this request with information on past events and
expertise, and includes links to seminal articles and
additional resources on development in the Muslim World.
Also as part of the Muslim World Initiative, PPC IDEAS
created an extensive database of experts on the Muslim
World for use by USAID. The database is organized by
country and area of expertise (governance, agriculture,
education, etc.). To date we have identified over 50
experts.
In 2004, PPC IDEAS supported the completion of three
studies to help with USAID’s Muslim World Initiative
by coordinating the work of regional and topical experts.
The experts on the outreach study were:
- Dr. Daniel Brumberg, Carnegie Endowment for International
Peace
- Dr. Robert Hefner, Boston University
- Dr. Timur Kuran, University of Southern California
- Dr. Vali Nasr, Naval Postgraduate School
Dr. Peter Timmer, of Development Alternatives Inc.,
assisted with the economics study. |
