Georgia Rule of Law Resource
Center
USAID’s Georgia Rule of Law project operated from June 30, 2001,
through December 30, 2005. Implemented by the IRIS
Center at the University
of Maryland, College Park, the project was designed to strengthen the rule
of law in Georgia. Our activities included:
-
Writing new
laws and making the old
laws more effective
-
Providing legal assistance to protect
citizens’ rights
-
Helping government offices be more open and responsive to people's needs
-
Informing Georgians about the law and their rights under
it
IRIS worked with the government and legal system, as well
as with individuals, citizen groups, and NGOs. Local engagement,
capacity-building, and participation were key to the success
of this project — IRIS worked closely with Georgian
NGOs, awarding and managing grants to implement specific sub-projects.

resource center provides an overview of the project and its
